Does this just work over minor based chords, or would you also use it over major type chords as well? I'm figuring it's something to use over minor chords/keys, but maybe if you base it off the 3rd of a major chord it will fit in that scenario as well. Don't have my instruments with me rn or I'd just try it haha. Great video as always!

Thanks! Well, if you can make it sound good over any particular chord, then go for it. However, if you create a chord from this mode, it’s a minor seventh chord. So it works well over that chord although there are other options. Over this D drone in the lesson, there are loads of options! I’ll do a lesson on that coming up.

That #4 has a little bit of a spooky feel, but that perfect 5th tempers it nicely.

AND, it is the key in which an Appalachian (or “Mountain”) Dulcimer is fretted, to play all those old-time Scotch-Irish fiddle tunes like, Cotten Eye Joe, and other American “hill” tunes, where two people go down to the river bank, but only one comes back, in the key of Dmaj

Guitar players are so jealous that bass players don’t have to deal with the B string tuning anomaly so all your scales are the same everywhere.

Hiya Dan. You 've helped me become a decent bassist (not just a guy who can play songs), 13 months after receiving a bass as a gift. Many thanks. I appreciate you and your work, and really should open my wallet and buy something from you. In case anyone hasn't told you today ------> you're awesome! I noticed you rarely play with a plectrum. Is this a preference? Is there a time where you do find yourself playing with a pick while gigging or something. You're not secretly the bassist for Gwar are you? Just curious... Got to the point where i am decent with my fingers ( somewhere around 90-95 bpm 16th notes ) -----> I watch 10 year olds fly around the fretboard at the speed of light so i know i can get more dexterity in my fingers, but I started trying to use a pick a while back and feel clumsy in comparison. Starting to ramble here, so I'll leave it at thanks. Have a pleasant day. Cheers mate.

I really hate it when people use the term "back pickup". Which pickup is that? I know what you mean but the term "bridge pickup" eliminates any ambiguity. The other pickup is what I call the neck pickup.

@@DoctorGuitar Yeah, that's a classic - I used to hear that all the time! With that, I'd explain that it was indeed strange and looks/sounds wrong but to try to think of it from the musician's perspective. Once they thought about it in terms of pitch and not direction, it made sense.
